Welcome to Western Stoneware – Beginning a New Century!
Western Stoneware was started in 1906 when seven local potteries united. We celebrated our 100th year anniversary in June of 2006.
Western Stoneware has recently changed ownership as three long-time employees decided to continue operations.
What types of stoneware do we make?
We have many new items such as bowls, bowl sets, baking dishes, food preparation and serving items. But we still will offer our traditional pieces such as jugs, bean pots, and cheese crocks. Each item comes is available in a variety of colors. Our stoneware is attractive enough to go from the oven to the table.
Where is our stoneware made?
All of our items are produced from start to finish in Monmouth, Illinois, U. S. A.
How is our stoneware made?
Our stoneware is handcrafted with the same methods used by potters over several generations. The stoneware is fired at over 2200°F, which gives each piece its rich and glossy appearance, making it easy to clean after each use. This high firing also makes our items oven proof, microwaveable, and dishwasher safe.
Stoneware has excellent thermal qualities so it will keep “hot foods” hot and “cold foods” cold longer than other ceramic items. This excellent thermal quality also is quite noticeable when baking. It virtually eliminates hot spots or uneven baking. So pies, breads, and pizzas come out of the oven looking like a professional made them.
We have many exciting colors to choose from and our glazes make clean up much easier than un-glazed items. (Our glazes contain no lead so are safe for use with any food or liquid.) There is no “seasoning required”.

To the new customer we would like to introduce you to American made stoneware. It is rugged and durable. Many pieces have been handed down in families for several generations.
